Lady Pioneers Make it Four Straight

The Alfred State volleyball team dropped the first set 14-25 but rebounded and won the next three sets, 25-22, 25-16, 25-22, to down Houghton on Wednesday night and improve to 4-0.

Jessica Padley (Sweet Home) led the Lady Pioneers with 10 kills and added 11 digs. Bryanna Godfrey (Tioga) chipped in nine kills and 12 digs, Janae Hamilton (Ellicottville) added nine kills, and Madison Szpaicher (Ellicottville) led the team with 26 assists and 17 digs. 

Naomi Prentice led Houghton (2-1) with 13 kills while Erica Barney chipped in 10 kills. Rebekah White finished with 14 digs and Anna Coryell passed out 28 assists.

The Lady Pioneers struggled in the first set connecting on only two kills. They rebounded the rest of the way and registered a .393 hitting percentage in the decisive set three. Houghton hit only .090 on the game. The Highlanders did collect 10 service aces on the night while the Lady Pioneers struggled a bit committing 12 service errors.

The blue & gold are back in action on Saturday when they head to Elmira College. They take on the hosts at 11 a.m. and then battle Cazenovia for the second time this season at 1 p.m.
