Martinez Collects Three Hits in Tough Loss

Jose Martinez (Queens/Newtown) collected three hits for Alfred State as they fell 5-4 to Eastern Mennonite in the final game of their weekend series. The Pioneers held a 4-0 lead but the Royals rallied for the final five runs to improve to 7-1.

Thomas Shofi (Carmel) got the Pioneers on the board in the 4th inning when he collected a two-out, 2-RBI double. Martinez made it 4-0 in the 5th inning when he picked up a two-out, 2-RBI single.

The Royals started their rally in the bottom of the 5th when they plated two runs. They tied it up with two more runs in the 6th and scored the game-winning run in the 8th inning on a throwing error. 

Martinez finished the day 3 for 4 while Jesse Swan (Campbell Savona) was 2 for 4. Alfred State outhit EMU 10-8 on the day. Connor Odonoghue (Avon) allowed three hits and one earned run in his four innings of work. He struck out six.

Griffin Stanley led the Royals with a 2 for 3, 1 RBI day while Aaron Hooven came out of the pen and tossed 2.1 innings of one hit ball to earn the victory.

The Pioneers are back in action on March 12th when they take on Scranton in their first game at the Ripken Experience in Myrtle Beach, SC.
