Pioneers Keep Rolling

The Alfred State baseball team continued to roll with a 8-3 victory over Fredonia on Tuesday afternoon. The Pioneers now have won nine of their last ten games.

Fredonia got on the board first with two unearned runs in the 3rd inning. Quinn Danahy delivered a two-out, two-run single up the middle to give the Blue Devils their only lead of the game.

The Pioneers answered right back in the bottom of the 3rd when Rafael Perozo (Bronx/St. Raymond) sent a drive over the right field fence for a two-out three-run homer. The homer was Perozo's second of the season.

The blue & gold added to their lead with a RBI infield single by Nick Padley (Buffalo/Sweet Home) in the 5th and a RBI single y Cullen Franz (Cazenovia) in the 6th.

Fredonia scored on a pair of throwing errors in the 7th to cut the lead to 5-3 but Alfred State tacked on three runs in the bottom of the inning to seal the victory. Pedro Mora (Manhattan/AP Randolph) had a RBI ground out and Austin Baker (Canisteo Greenwood) followed with a two-RBI double down the left field line.

Brady Sass (Caledonia Mumford) picked up another win on the mound. He allowed six hits and no earned runs in seven innings of work to improve to 4-4 on the season. He walked two and struck out four. Kyle Kuzma (Waverly) allowed two hits and no runs in the final two innings.

Baker and Andy Pichardo (Corona/Academy of American Studies) both finished 2 for 4 for Alfred State while Dan Cecilia and Patrick Sheehan were both 2 for 4 for the Blue Devils (17-18).

The blue & gold continue their homestand on Thursday when they host Elmira at 3 p.m.
