Pioneers Fall In Spring Trip Opener

The Alfred State baseball team lost their first of eight games to be played in Myrtle Beach, SC at the Cal Ripken Experience. They were defeated this afternoon by Scranton, 20-2.

Scranton jumped out to an early 3-0 lead in the top of the 1st inning and never looked back. They added three more runs in the 3rd, five in the 4th, two in the 5th, three in the 6th, and four in the 7th. Scranton hit the ball well and took advantage of eight Pioneer errors. Brian Markowski picked up his first win on the young season as he combined with David Chromey on the mound.

The Pioneers generated a number of opportunites on offense but struggled to get the timely hit. In the bottom of the 3rd inning, the Pioneers  got on the board when Danny Doran (Irondequoit) grounded to second to score Jose Martinez (Queens). They were able to genereate another run in the bottom of the 4th inning when Nick Padley (Sweet Home) hit a RBI single to right field.

The offense was led by Jesse Swan (Campbell) and Nick Geyer (Newburgh) who each collected two hits for the blue & gold.

The Pioneers look to even the series tomorrow morning as they take on Scranton at 9 a.m.
