Pioneers Can't Rally All the Way Back

The Alfred State baseball team fell behind early and couldn't rally all the way back in a 8-5 loss to Albertus Magnus on Wednesday afternoon. The Pioneers sent the tying run to the plate in both the 8th and 9th innings but could not get any closer.

The Falcons came out with another fast start as they plated four runs in the 1st inning. After the first Connor Odonoghue (Avon) settled down and pitched five innings of shutout baseball. He allowed only four earned runs in his six innings. Kyle Kuzma (Waverly) gave the Pioneers another good outing on the mound as he finished the final three innings while allowing only two runs on two hits.

The Pioneers continue to hit the ball well, but just aren't getting enough timely hitting to get over the hump. Austin Baker (Canisteo) went 2-3 on the afternoon while David Zuber (Honeoye Falls Lima) and Robert Cardona (All Hallows) each tripled and collected a RBI. Pedro Mora (AP Randolph), Cullen Franz (Cazenovia), and Jose Martinez (Newtown) each delivered a RBI.

The Pioneers will be back in action tomorrow at 9:00 a.m. as they take on Washington College at the Cal Ripken Experience in Myrtle Beach, SC.
