Pioneers Sweep William Peace to End Weekend

The Alfred State Baseball team concluded their weekend in Cary, NC with two wins over William Peace. The Pioneers won the first game 8-2 and the second game 4-3.

In Game 1:

The Pioneers started strong with long at-bats, forcing a run in with a bases loaded walk. After a clean first inning on the mound for Ryan Bailey, William Peace put a few hits together to tie the game up at 1. Both teams traded runs in the fourth, before the Pioneers strung two more runs together in the 5th and 6th innings, to take a 4-2 lead. A big 7th inning for Alfred State extended the lead more with 4 runs crossing the plate. Bailey threw a shutout 7th inning to lock up the 8-2 victory for Alfred State.

Some standouts for the Pioneers include:

Ryan Bailey: Bailey finished with 4 k's and allowed only 4 hits on 1 earned run in a complete game victory.

Nick Serce: Serce went 1-2 with a home run and two walks.

In Game 2:

Alfred State came out hot with the bats again in game 2. They scored 3 runs on 4 hits in the top of the 1st inning. Elijah Barinas had a big base hit to cap the scoring in the first. Spencer Riehler was on the mound for the Pioneers and threw 3.1 shutout innings for Alfred State. Riehler finished with 3 k's and allowed no runs. Josh Van Bramer came in relief and got out of a jam only allowing 1 run to cross the plate. Heading into the bottom of the sixth, the Pioneers were up 4-1. William Peace scored two runs and made it a one run game. Caden Fortunato earned his first career save, with two innings of relief in the 6th and 7th innings.

Some other standouts for the Pioneers include:

Sam Dickerson: Dickerson went 2-3 with a double and a walk.

Owen Lansing: Lansing went 2-3 and scored a run.

The Pioneers play again on Thursday, March 2 at RIT.
