Pioneers Sweep Pitt.- Greensburg; Remain Atop AMCC

The Alfred State Baseball team swept the double header from Pitt- Greensberg to stay undefeated in AMCC play. With 4-0 and 15-3 wins, the Pioneers are sitting alone in first place in the conference standings with a 6-0 record. In Game 1:

The Pioneers came out slow with the bats. Starter Ryan Bailey was lights out for the Alfred State. Bailey was dominant, throwing a complete game shutout and tallying 11 strikeouts. The first run of the game came from an RBI single by Jack Curraba, scoring Tim Holler in the mid-innings. The score remained 1-0 until the top of the 7th, when a 3-run home run by Devin Mersman broke the game open. Tyler Petery, Eljijah Barinas and Tim Holler all recorded a hit in the Pioneers win.

In Game 2:

Unlike game 1, the Pioneer bats came out firing on all cylinders. In the 1st inning, Elijah Barinas singled to score Sam Dickerson who started the game with a double. Pitt- Greensberg tied the game in the bottom of the inning. In the 3rd inning Tim Holler launched a 2-run home run to make the game 3-1. The Pioneers put 2 more runs on the board in the third, with an RBI double from Jack Carraba and a sac fly RBI by Owen Lansing. The Pioneers never stopped scoring, Nick Serce hit 2 home runs and Devin Mersman hit his second of the day in game 2. Serce ended the game 4-4 with 3 runs and 5 RBIs. Chris Mattoon started for the Pioneers throwing a complete game with 7 strong innings only surrendering 5 hits and 1 ER while striking out 4.

The Pioneers are back at home with a Wednesday for an AMCC double header vs Hilbert at 1:00 and 4:00 at Pioneer field.
