Football Five: Pioneers Head to DC to Battle Gallaudet

Alfred State travels to Washington DC to battle undefeated Gallaudet in another key ECFC battle.

  • Meeting History: 4th meeting between the two schools. Gallaudet has won all three previous meetings including a 62-41 slugfest in their last meeting in 2019.
  • Last Game: Alfred State fell 28-17 in a wet and wild 
    •  Alfred State and Anna Maria battled through numerous rain showers on Homecoming Saturday. The AMCATS were able to take advantage of five Pioneer turnovers to earn a key 28-17 ECFC victory. Aaron Jenkins finished 13 for 18 for 200 yards and rushed for 99 yards and two scores on 25 carries. Shy'rel Broadwater caught five passes for 91 yards and Jake Palmer (Voorheesville) rushed for 59 yards on 13 carries. Joel Smith had a monster day leading all tacklers with 15 tackles. Nuhsar Mike finished with seven tackles and a sack. Joseph Alvarado and Anthony Allen intercepted passes. Full game story

    •  Gallaudet University celebrated for the first time at Reinhart Field in nine years as the Bison spoiled homecoming for the Privateers here Saturday with a 23-9 victory. Timel Benton finished the game 7-for-11 for 83 yards and ran the ball 19 times for 79 yards and one score. Joseph Mendis tallied 54 yards on six carries while Mikka Harvey finished with 60 all-purpose yards. Linebacker Stefan Anderson led the Bison defense with 11 tackles while Hartman finished with nine tackles, three tackles for a loss of seven yards and one forced fumble. Full Game Story

  • Game Notes:
    • Gallaudet leads the conference with 33.8 points per game and is allowing 22.8 points per game (2nd) while Alfred State is 3rd in the conference with 25.3 points per game and 4th by allowing 27.2 points.
    • Rushing quarterbacks will be huge in this game. Timel Benton leads the conference with an average of 98.4 yards per game while Aaron Jenkins is averaging 77 yards per game. Both are tied for the most rushing touchdowns in the ECFC with seven.
    • Joel Smith had a big day last week and now sits 2nd in the conference with 8.7 tackles per game. Stefan Anderson is tops in the conference with 10.2 tackles per game.
    • Controlling the Bison triple-option will be key. GU is averaging 332.6 yards per game on the ground. 
    • Alfred State and Gallaudet both have intercepted seven passes on the season. That is tied for most in the ECFC.
    • The Pioneer defensive line led by Te'Hari Campbell, Billy Fon, and Brock Weist will be key in the contest as they try to keep the Bison from being on the field for long possessions. GU is averaging over 32 minutes of possession per game.
    • Gallaudet (5-0, 3-0 ECFC) is off to its best start since the 2013 season
    • The Bisons win last week snapped a seven-game losing streak against SUNY Maritime. In the game they rolled up 322 yards on the ground and 405 total in the game.
