Pioneers to Battle Corsairs in New England Bowl

The Alfred State football team has been selected to represent the ECFC at the 2021 New England Bowl. The Pioneers will travel to UMass Dartmouth for their first NCAA postseason appearance.

Alfred State, who finished as the co-champion of the ECFC, has won four in a row and have won six of their last seven. Their 6-4 overall record is the best during the NCAA era and their 5-1 mark is another program best.

UMass Dartmouth is 8-2 and was 6-2 in Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC). The Corsairs have won five straight games.

Alfred State and UMass Dartmouth have played twice previously. The Corsairs were victors in season openers in 2018 and 2019.

Merchant Marine will take on Western New England will match-up in the other New England Bowl contest on Saturday.

For the fifth time, the competing teams and the host institutions were selected by the commissioners of the four NCAA Division III conferences that have joined forces to present the New England Bowl Series: Commonwealth Coast Football (CCC), the Eastern Collegiate Football Conference (ECFC), the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC), and the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC).

The 2021 edition of the New England Bowl marks the fourth time that the commissioners are presenting multiple games to reward deserving teams from all four conferences.

Alfred State, UMass Dartmouth, and Western New England are making their first appearance in the New England Bowl.
