Late Rally Lifts Wells

Wells College went on a 15-3 run in the final 1:22 to erase a seven-point deficit and earn a 79-74 victory over Alfred State on Thursday evening.

In a wild contest that featured four ties and 11 lead changes, the Express outscored the Pioneers 23-10 in the final 4:13. Wells led 35-33 at half and led 42-41 with 15:37 remaining until Alfred State went on a 14-0 lead to grab a 13-point lead. Wells' game ending 23-10 run included the decisive 15-3 run in the final 1:22. The Pioneers had chances to seal the game but struggled from the foul line. Alfred State missed their final six foul shots in the contest.

Tyrone Davis (Brooklyn/Benjamin Banneker) led the blue & gold with 17 points and 7 rebounds. Adam Fezza (Southhampton) and Dante Jordan (New York/Law and Public Service) both came off the bench and scored 10 points while Quadrelle Roberts (Rochester/Franklin) added eight. The Pioneers shot 47.9% from the field but was only 21 for 44 from the foul line.

Darius Smith and James Feocco both had 16 points for Wells. 53 of the Express' points were scored off the bench. The team finished the night shooting 41.5% and was 30 for 44 from the foul line.

The game featured 63 fouls and 88 foul shot attempts.

Alfred State opens up the home portion of their season on Saturday when they host Oberlin at 2 p.m.
