Big 2nd Half Run Lifts Cazenovia

A 22-4 during a seven minute stretch in the 2nd half lifted Cazenovia to a 94-85 victory over Alfred State on Tuesday afternoon. The contest was tied at 58-58 before the deciding run. 

Cazenovia led throughout the 1st half and held a 43-37 lead at the break. The Pioneers started the 2nd half on a 7-0 run to grab a 44-43 lead. The two teams traded leads until the 10:06 mark when the Wildcats went on their big run. The Pioneers trailed 80-62 with 3:30 remaining but did not quit and cut the Cazenovia lead to 91-85 with just over ten seconds remaining but couldn't get any closer.

Justin Wallace (Mt. St. Michael) hit six three-pointers and led the Pioneers with 24 points. Marquis Edwards (Queens/In-Tech Academy) continued his hot play of late finishing with 19 and Dante Jordan (New York/Law & Public Service) finished with 10 points and seven boards. Tyrone Davis (Brooklyn/Benjamin Banneker) passed out 12 assists.

The Pioneers shot 50% from the floor in the game, connected on 12 of 28 three-point attempts, and hit 7 of 11 foul shots. The team was out-rebounded 36-32 and committed 17 turnovers.

The Wildcats were led by Ryan Gavin's 29 points and 13 rebounds. He was 11 for 13 from the foul line. Avery Wilmore chipped in 18 points, Will Thompson added 14, and Nate Hudson finished with 11 points and seven boards.

Cazenovia shot 50.9% from the floor, was 7 for 18 from three, and hit 31 of their 41 foul shots including 24 of 31 attempts in the 2nd half.

The Pioneers head to Hilbert on Wednesday for a 6 p.m. tilt with the Hawks.
