Poor Shooting Costs Pioneers

The Alfred State men's basketball team could not overcome a slow start to the 2nd half and fell 67-58 to Keuka College as they opened up the 2016 portion of their season.

The Pioneers led 28-26 at the break but was held to just four point in the first 10:44 of the 2nd half. The Wolfpack used their 12-4 run to take the lead for good. Keuka built a 13-point lead with 3:55 remaining but Alfred State got the offense going and close the gap to 63-58 in the final minute but couldn't get any closer.

Christopher Padron (Bronx/Mott Haven) came off the bench and led the Pioneers with 10 points. Dante Jordan (New York/Law & Public Service) and Justin Wallace (Mount Vernon/Mt. St. Michael) each chipped in nine points. Jordan led the team with nine boards.

The Pioneers shot 39% from the field (23 for 59), 33.3% from three (8 for 24), and hit just four of their fourteen attempts from the line.

Trevor Powell came off the bench and led led the Wolfpack with 15 points and eight boards. Greg Tyler and Casey Williams each finished with 11 and Cliff Stevens added nine. Keuka shot 39.6% from the field, 40% from three, and 65.7% (23 for 35) from the foul line.

The blue & gold are back in action on Saturday when they host SUNY Poly. Tip-off is at 2 p.m.
