Pioneers Fight Hard vs. Oberlin

The Alfred State men's basketball team rallied back from a 19-point deficit to tie Oberlin 58-58 with just over four minutes remaining but the Yeomen finished the game on a 13-4 run to earn a 71-62 victory. 

Oberlin led 36-21 at halftime and expanded their lead to 42-23 early in the 2nd half before the Pioneers got things going. Alfred State outscored the Yeomen 35-16 over the next twelve minutes to tie the game. After the Pioneers tied it, was 2 for 3 from the field and hit 9 of 13 foul shots while Alfred State was only 1 for 9 from the field in the final moments.

Tyrone Davis (Brooklyn/Benjamin Banneker) led the blue & gold with 20 points and five assists. He was 10 for 12 from the foul line. Marquis Edwards (Queens/In-Tech Academy) added 14 points while Dior Dixon (Brooklyn/Bishop Loughlin) chipped in seven. The Pioneers shot 38.2% from the field, 19% from three, and 55.2% from the foul line. 

Randy Ollie, the Yeomen 6-10 center, had a big game finishing with 28 points and eight rebounds. He was 14 for 21 from the foul line. Nathan Cohen finished with 15 and Jack Poyle had five points and 12 rebounds. Oberlin shot 48.8% from the field, 25% from three, and 57.1% from the foul line. The Yeomen held a 41-32 advantage on the glass.

The Pioneers head to D'Youville on Tuesday for a 4 p.m. rematch with the Spartans. The Pioneers and Spartans battled last Saturday at the Nazareth Tournament with D'Youville coming out on top.
