Total Team Effort Lifts Pioneers to Victory

Ten different Pioneers scored as Alfred State defeated Morrisville State 70-50 on Monday night. The Pioneers shot 47.7% from the field to excite the hometown fans and held the Mustangs to just 27.5%.

In the first nine minutes, Alfred State and Morrisville traded the lead before the Pioneers went on a 8-0 run to break a 14-14 tie. From that point on the Pioneers never would trail. They went into half with a 33-29 lead and then outscored the Mustangs 37 to 21 in the 2nd half, holding Morrisville to just 16.1% shooting. Morrisville cut the Pioneer lead to 41-39 with 14:19 remaining but Alfred State responded with a 17-3 run to put the game out of reach. 

Tyler Elliott (Perry) and Marquis Edwards (Queens/In-Tech Academy) led the Pioneers with 14 points each. Elliott added six steals and five boards while Edwards chipped in six boards and three assists. Quadrelle Roberts (Rochester/Franklin) added 12 points, Robbie Adams (Jasper Troupsburg) finished with eight points and eight boards, and Tyrone Davis (Brooklyn/Benjamin Banneker) chipped in seven points, nine assists, and seven boards.

Alfred State scored 43 bench points and had 27 points off of the 20 Mustang turnovers. The Pioneers also held a slight 43 to 41 advantage on the boards. From the field, the blue & gold finished 31 for 65.

Joe Hulbert led Morrisville with 14 points while Tyler Bliss came off the bench and finished with 10 points. Morrisville was 14 for 51 from the field on the day and 6 for 22 from beyond the three point arc.

The Pioneers hit the road on Wednesday evening to battle Penn College in Williamsport, PA. Opening tip is at 6 p.m.
