Indoor Track Finishes 8th in Season Opener

The Alfred State indoor track and field opened up their 2014-15 season with a 8th place finish at the Brockport Early Season Invitational. The men scored 38 points while the women scored 25.

Casey Bills (Hudson Falls) and Jacob Hanss (East Rochester) led the way with 3rd place finishes. Bills was 3rd in the women's 300 m with the 6th best time in school history (44.20) while Hanss was 3rd in the 3,000 (9:43.18). 

The women's 4x200 relay team, Maddi McDonald (Lansing), Angel Bresnahan (Mexico), Diane Sill (Kendall), and Dayonna Holmes (Rochester/Charlotte) finished 3rd as well in 1:54.04. Their time is 3rd best in school history.

Carissa Plessums (Warsaw) had a big day finishing 4th in the triple jump (10.36 m) and was 7th in the high jump (1.50 m). Her performance in the TJ is 2nd best and her performance in the HJ is tied for 2nd best.

The Pioneer men were well represented in the 3000 m.  James Westman (Fonda Fultonville) was 4th (9:46.37), Eric Hulbert (Mexico) was 5th (9:47.21), Tom Lattanzi (Kings Park) was 6th (9:56.59), and Kyle Glaub (West Seneca) was 7th (10:12.26).

Other top finishes on the women's side included:

  • Lindsey Thiel (Liverpool) was 6th in the 3000 (11:27.96) - 7th all time.
  • Cassandra Ryan (Gloversville) was 7th in the 500 (1:27.74)
  • Holmes was 7th in the 60 m dash (8.51 in the finals) - her prelim time of 8.19 is 2nd best in school history.
  • Brianna Byrnes (Jordan Elbridge) was 8th in the 500 (1:31.06).

Other top finishes on the men's side included:

  • Brandon Teboe (Falconer) qualified for the NYS Championships with a 5th place finish in the pole vault (4.25 m).
  • 4x200 relay, Kyle Jones (Wilson), Zach Woodward (Adams Center), John Adewumi (Bordertown), and Joseph Richardson (Geneva), was 5th in 1:34.71 - 4th best in school history.
  • 4x400 relay, Jones, Woodard, Richardson, and Adewumi, was 6th in 3:40.25
  • Adewumi was 6th in the triple jump (13.01 m).

The Pioneers return to action in 2015 when they return to Brockport on January 24th.
