Pioneers Finish 2nd at Roanoke Invitational

The Alfred State outdoor track and field team opened up the outdoor season with a 2nd place finish at the Roanoke (VA) Invitational on Saturday afternoon. The men scored 128 points while the women scored 88.

Victoire Kothor (Rochester/Greece Odyssey) had a big day to lead the women's team. She won the shot put with a toss of 12.90 to qualify for the ECAC Championships. She also tossed the hammer throw 34.64 m (6th best in school history) and the discus 32.08 m (10th best in school history).

Angel Bresnahan (Mexico) recorded a leap of 5.10 m which is 5th best in school history.

Keith Johnson (Webster Thomas) won the 5,000 m with a time of 16:07.07 while Jacob Hanss (East Rochester) was 2nd in the steeplchase (10:19.49).

Roanoke won the men's title with 164 points followed by Alfred State (128), Virginia Tech (100), and Bridgewater State (54). On the women's side, Roanoke scored 275 points followed by Alfred State (88), Virginia Tech (78), and Bridgewater State (50).

The Pioneers are back in action next weekend when they travel to Susquehanna University for the Jim Taylor Invitational. Action is slated for a 10 a.m. start.
