Win Streak Reaches Nine

The Alfred State volleyball team showed their resiliency to rally late in games in a 27-25, 25-23, 21-25, 25-18 victory over Wilkes and then used a total team effort to sweep Sarah Lawrence 25-9, 25-14, 25-18. The victories improve the blue & gold to 9-0 on the season.

Versus Wilkes, the Lady Pioneers rallied from a 22-17 deficit in the first game and won 27-25. They then scored the final six points of the second game to rally from a 23-19 deficit. Wilkes did not allow the Lady Pioneers to complete a comeback in game three but Alfred State led throughout game four to seal the victory.

Bryanna Godfrey (Tioga) led the way with 16 kills and five digs. Jessica Padley (Sweet Home) added 10 kills and four digs, Lera Braun (Waterloo) passed out 39 assists and had 10 kills. Ellicottville grads Grace Hall (nine kills) and Janae Hamilton (seven kills) combined for 16 kills. Valerie Intini (Eastridge) chipped in 17 digs while Madison Szpaicher (Ellicottville) had 14 digs and six kills.

Madison Scarfaro led Wilkes with 13 kills while Kayley Schinski and Ellen Mook both had nine. Alexis Morgan passed out 37 assists and Danica Benson led the team with 17 digs.

Everyone got into the action in the victory over Sarah Lawrence. Madison Webster (Corning) had a team high five aces and five digs, Hall led with seven kills, and Intini chipped in five digs. Szpaicher passed out 13 assists.

The Lady Pioneers connected on 33 kills (.319 hitting percentage), recorded 16 service aces, and had 23 digs.

The Lady Pioneers are back in action tomorrow when they travel down the road to Keystone. They have a rematch with Sarah Lawrence at Noon and battle Keystone at 2 p.m.
