Alfred State Sweeps Keystone Tri

The Alfred State volleyball team ran their season opening winning streak to eleven games with a sweep of a pair of matches at Keystone on Saturday. The Lady Pioneers defeated Sarah Lawrence and Keystone 3-0.

In their opener vs. Sarah Lawrence the Lady Pioneers cruised to the victory, 25-8, 25-6, 25-8. Madison Webster (Corning) led the way with eight kills and four digs. Lera Braun (Waterloo) passed out 29 assists and recorded five kills, Grace Hall (Ellicottville) had eight aces and five kills, and Madison Szpaicher (Ellicottville) chipped in six kills and five digs. The blue & gold recorded 20 aces in the contest.

Versus Keystone (8-3), the Lady Pioneers earned a decisive 25-12, 25-16, 25-9 victory. Janae Hamilton (Ellicottville) led the way with 10 kills, Hall added nine, and Bryanna Godfrey (Tioga) chipped in eight. Braun passed out 24 assists and had a game high 12 digs.

Alfred State is one of only two teams in the USCAA still undefeated this season.

The Lady Pioneers head to Elmira on Wednesday for a 7 p.m. contest vs. the Soaring Eagles.
