Lady Pioneers Drop Wild Five Setter

The Alfred State volleyball team lost a wild five set match with SUNY Canton on Sunday. The Kangaroos took the first set 4-25 but the Pioneers rallied and took the next two sets 25-21 and 25-15. Canton rallied to take the 4th set 21-25 and took the deciding 5th set 9-15 to take the match.

Jessica Padley (Sweet Home) led the Lady Pioneers with 10 kills and 12 digs. Bryanna Godfrey (Tioga) chipped in seven kills and 22 digs, Lera Braun (Waterloo) passed out 24 assists and had 11 digs, and Madison Webster (Corning) led the way with 26 digs. Madison Szpaiched chipped in 16 digs.

The Lady Pioneers struggled with a .038 hitting percentage in the game. The team collected seven aces but was slowed down by 14 service errors.

Morgan Bills led the Roos with 23 kills while Peyton Robinson passed out 46 assists. Kiana Archer and Robyn Carroll both had 25 digs in the contest.

Alfred State is now 22-4 on the year while Canton is now 23-7. Both teams entered the contest tied for 3rd in the latest USCAA poll. The seeding for the 2015 USCAA Championships will be announced on Wednesday at 2 p.m. Canton defeated Alfred State in the 3rd place match during the 2014 season.

The blue & gold return to action on Wednesday when they host cross county rival Houghton. First serve is slated for 7 p.m.
