Baseball Tripped Up in Opener

The Alfred State baseball team collected 19 hits but were tripped up in both halves of their 2013 spring season opener at Hagerstown CC.  The Hawks used five run innings in both games to win 7-4 and 7-2.

With Alfred lead 4-2 in the 4th, Hagerstown scored five to take the lead for good.  Only two of the Hawks runs were earned.

Greg Koller (Chesterland, OH) was 3 for 4 with a RBI to lead the offense while Eric Mehaffy (Lisbon) and Dylan Lewis Ellison (Whitesville) were each 2 for 3.  Jordan Wheaton (Wayland Cohocton) connected on a two-run double.

In the nightcap, Hagerstown broke a 2-2 tie with a five run 4th.  Koller led the way with a 2 for 3, 1 RBI game while Colton Caldwell (Dublin, OH) hit a double, scored a RBI and pitched the first three innings.

The Pioneers continue their series at Hagerstown CC on Sunday with a Noon doubleheader.
