Pioneers Lose a Pair of One Run Games

The Alfred State baseball team lost a pair of one-run contests on Sunday afternoon at Hagerstown CC, 12-11 and 8-7 in eight innings.

In the opener, Alfred jumped out to a 4-0 lead but saw themselves trailing 12-6 heading into the 7th.  In the 7th, the Pioneers scored five and had runners on 2nd and 3rd when the Hawks recorded the final out.

Nicholas Padley (Buffalo/Sweet Home) was 3 for 4 with 3 RBI to pace the Pioneer 12-hit attack. Jordan Wheaton (Wayland Cohocton) was 2 for 4 with a RBI while Greg Koller (Chesterland, OH) was 1 for 2 with a RBI.

In game two, Alfred scored three in the 7th to tie it but Hagerstown connected on a two-out walk-off single in the 8th to earn the sweep.

Wheaton was 2 for 4 with 2 RBI while Dylan Lewis-Ellison (Whitesville) and Padley were each 2 for 4 with a RBI.  Steven Stapleton (Williamsville/Sweet Home) tossed five innings of relief allowing two runs to keep the Pioneers in the contest.

Alfred returns to Maryland on Friday when they battle Harford CC.  First pitch of the doubleheader is at 3 p.m.
