Pioneers Offense Sputters at FLCC

The Alfred State offense mustered only seven hits and were swept at Finger Lakes CC on Tuesday afternoon.  FLCC earned 5-3 and 5-0 victories to improve to 15-24 and 11-8 in Region III Division III play.  The Pioneers are now 13-27 and 11-10 in RIII DIII play.

In the opener, Jordan Wheaton (Wayland Cohocton) connected on a three-run homer in the 1st to give the Pioneers an early lead.  FLCC answered with two in the 1st, tied it with a run in the 2nd, and took the lead for good with two runs in the 4th.

Wheaton finished the day 2 for 3 with 3 RBI.  Stephen Golombiewski (East Otto/Cattaraugus) tossed six innings allowing seven hits and three earned runs.

Finger Lakes held Alfred to just four singles in the nightcap.  The Lakers scored single runs in the 2nd and 4th inning but put the game out of reach with three runs in the 6th.

The Pioneers and the Lakers continue their four-game series on Thursday with a 2 p.m. doubleheader in Alfred.
