Pioneers and Jayhawks Split

Pioneers and Jayhawks Split

The Alfred State baseball team got a solid pitching performance from Stephen Solomon (Harrisburg, PA) to earn a split of a pivotal Region III Division III doubleheader.  The Pioneers fell 7-0 in the opener but won 4-1 in the nightcap.

Solomon allowed scattered seven hits in the complete game victory.  He did not allow an earned run and walked and struck out four batters.

The Pioneers scored two in the 2nd taking advantage of two Jayhawk errors.  JCC took advantage of a Pioneer miscue in the 5th to cut it to 2-1 but Alfred responded with two runs once again taking advantage of a two-base fielding error.

Anthony Gonzalez (Florida/SS Seward Institute) was 2 for 3 for the Pioneers while Colton Caldwell (Dublin, OH) drove in a run.

In the opener, the Pioneers mustered only four singles and were hurt by four errors.  Steven Stapleton (Williamsville/Sweet Home) was 2 for 3 on the day.

JCC picked up 11 hits including a 3 for 3, 2 RBI day by Kody Kondrlik and a 2 for 4, 3 RBI performance by Connor Borowski.

Alfred is now 12-25 overall on the year and 10-8 in Region III Division III play.  The Jayhawks host the Pioneers in another doubleheader on Sunday starting at 1 p.m. to wrap up the four-game series.
