The Alfred State baseball team stepped out of Region III Division III play and fell to Monroe CC 11-1 and 15-5 in the last NJCAA meeting between the two long-time rivals. Monroe a member of Division II of the NJCAA is ranked #14 in the latest poll.
Monroe CC scored six runs in the 1st in both games to take control of the contest. In game 2 the Pioneers cut the lead to 7-5 in their half of the 4th but MCC answered with five of their own to regain their big lead.
Colton Caldwell (Dublin, OH) was 2 for 3 with a solo homer and a double in the opener.
In the nightcap, Caldwell was 1 for 3 with a RBI while Anthony Gonzalez (Florida/SS Seward Institute) was 1 for 4 with a RBI. Stephen Golombiewski (East Otto/Cattaraugus) was 1 for 2 with a RBI triple in his first at bat of the season.
The blue & gold return to action on Tuesday when they begin a four-game set with Corning CC. First pitch of the double dip in Alfred is slated for 2 p.m.
