Pioneers Continue Myrtle Beach Trip

Pioneers Continue Myrtle Beach Trip

The Alfred State baseball team could not plate any runs as they fell twice on Thursday as they they continued play at the Ripken Experience in Myrtle Beach, SC.  The Pioneers fell 12-0 to Frederick CC and 4-0 to Mohawk Valley CC.

In the opener vs. Frederick, the Cougars scored nine runs in the 1st inning and never looked back.  The Pioneers were held to just three singles in the contest.

The nightcap proved to be a pitchers duel with Stephen Solomon (Harrisburg, PA) and Matthew Engler.  Neither team could dent the scoreboard until the top of the 6th when the Hawks scored three runs as a result of two Pioneer errors.  MVCC added another unearned run in the 7th.

Solomon allowed the four unearned runs in seven innings of work.  He let up six hits while walking three and striking out eight.  Engler tossed the complete game shutout allowing five hits.  He walked one and struck out 10.

The Pioneers (1-15) are right back at it on Friday morning with a 9 a.m. battle with Bunker Hill (MA) CC at a Noon contest with Garrett (MD) College.
