Kothor Wins Shot Put, Women finish 10th at NYS Championships

Victoire Kothor (Rochester/Greece Odyssey) won the shot put at the NYS Championships and helped lead the Alfred State women's team to a 10th place finish. The 10th place finish is the best for the Lady Pioneers in the three years the team has competed at the NCAA DIII level.

Kothor tossed the shot put 13.11 m and won the competition by .23 m. In her two events during the championships, Kothor totaled 18 points (Friday evening, Kothor finished 2nd in the weight throw).

The 4x800 team of Cassandra Ryan (Gloversville), Lindsey Thiel (Liverpool), Brianna Byrnes (Jordan Elbridge), and Kelly Healy (Maple Hill) finished 8th and registered the 3rd fastest time in school history (10:14.83). The 4x400 relay team of Angel Bresnahan (Mexico), Maddi McDonald (Lansing), Alexis Carrington (Manhattan/NYC I School), and Holly Fiore (Niagra Falls) finsihed 9th in 4:29.11.

The Lady Pioneers scored 23 points in the competition and was only five points out of 8th place.

On the men's side Richard Krouse (Eden) and Zach Curran (Williamson) etched their way into the record book in the heptathlon.

  • Krouse was 5th overall in the competition after scoring 4,292 points. His point total is 2nd best all-time at Alfred State. His highest point totals came in the 1,000 (715 points - 2:54.91), the high jump (714 points - 1.90 m), and the 60 hurdles (698 points (9.22).
  • Curran finished 11th overall with 3,633 points and is now 5th all-time. He scored 673 points in the pole vault (4.20 m) and 610 points in the 60 m (7.83).

The Pioneers men scored 5.5 points in the competition and was 11th out of the 13 teams competing at Ithaca.

A couple Pioneers will head to the ECAC Championships March 4-5.
