Track & Field Opens up Outdoor Season with Strong Showing

The Alfred State track & field team opened up the outdoor season with strong showing at the Juniata Invitational. Victoire Kothor (Greece Odyssey) was a triple-winner to lead the Pioneers.

Kothor set new Alfred State records in winning the hammer throw (49.96 m) and the shot put (13.45 m). She also won the discus toss with a throw of 36.04. Teammate Haley Anderson (Lyndonville) finished 5th in the same events. She recorded tosses of 9.70 m in the shot, 33.26 m in the hammer, and 31.10 m in the discus.

Keith Johnson (Webster Thomas) also won an individual title in the 3,000 crossing the finish line in 9:05.35. Jacob Hanss (East Rochester) was 2nd in the steeplechase (10:10.09), Joe Richardson (Geneva) was 3rd in the triple jump (12.52 m), and Zach Curran (Williamson) was 5th in the pole vault (3.95 m). Timothy Coburn (Dansville) was 9th in the shot put (11.97).

Angel Bresnahan (Mexico) was 4th in the long jump (4.86 m.). She also teamed with Maddi McDonald (Lansing), Holly Fiore (Niagara Falls), and Brianna Byrnes (Jordan Elbridge) to earn a 5th place finish in the 4x100 (53.42). Lindsey Thiel (Liverpool) was 6th in the 5,000 (20:04.72) while Byrnes earned a 7th place finish in the 800 (2:35.67).

The blue & gold are back at it next Saturday when they travel to the Susquehanna Invitational. Action is slated to begin at 10 a.m.
