The Alfred State women's basketball team could not overcome a slow start as they were downed 61-53 by Maine Augusta in the first round of the Albany Pharmacy Tournament on Saturday. The Moose outscored the Lady Pioneers 21-8 in the 1st quarter.
Kimberly Levee (Dansville) led Alfred State with 14 points while Jackie Lieb (Hornell) added 10. Minnie Robinson (Washington DC) added eight points and six assists and Breana Gleaton (Waldorf, MD) finished with seven points and six boards.
The Lady Pioneers shot just 22.2% in the 1st half and 27.5% (19 for 69) for the conest. On the boards the blue & gold grabbed 49 rebounds (22 on the offensive glass).
The Lady Pioneers are back at it tomorrow when they play the loser of the Albany Pharmacy - Paul Smith's College at Noon.
