Gleaton and Bialecki Record Double-Doubles

Breana Gleaton (Waldorf, MD) and Catherine Bialecki (Alfred Almond) combined for 50 points, 29 rebounds, and nine blocks as Alfred State lost a tight 77-72 at Medaille on Wednesday. Both Gleaton and Bialecki recorded double-doubles.

The Mavericks led 25-18 after the 1st quarter and held a 42-31 at halftime. Medaille led 48-33 with 6:26 remaining before the Lady Pioneers went on a 20-5 run to tie the game up at 53-53 after three quarters. Alfred State scored the first four points of the 4th to grab their biggest lead of the game but the teams battled back and forth until Medaille went on a 7-0 run to break a 64-64 tie. From that point the Lady Pioneers could not get any closer.

Gleaton finished the day 11 for 21 from the field and 7 for 10 from the foul line to lead all scorers with 29 points. She also grabbed 15 rebounds and recorded four blocks and four assists. Bialecki netted 21 after shooting 10 for 17 from the floor. She added 14 rebounds and five blocks. Both Gleaton and Bialecki finished with 10 points in the Lady Pioneers big 3rd quarter.

Taina Graham led four Mavericks in double figures finishing with 21 points. Graham was 11 for 15 from the foul line including 5 for 7 in the 4th quarter. Rayann Call and Kelli McCauley both had 16 while Emily Shapiro came of the bench and had 11.

The Lady Pioneers held a 57 to 36 advantage on the boards (21-12 on the offensive glass) but were slowed down by 28 turnovers.

Alfred State is back at it on Saturday when they host SUNY Delhi at 1 p.m.
