Pioneers Set Two Meet Records at Cortland Invite

The Alfred State track and field team set two new meet records at the Cortland Invitational on Saturday.  The Pioneers had five winning performances on the day.

The 4x400 relay team of Logan Phillips (Genesee Valley), Josiah Thomas (Rochester/John Marshall), Cody Marvin (Bath), and Frankie Bailey (Rochester/John Marshall) set a new meet record with a winning time of 3:35.38.  The Pioneers other 4x400 relay team Nate Andres (Pioneer), Zach Woodard (South Jefferson), Kyle Jones (Wilson), and Brian Tubbs (Waverly) finished 2nd in 3:37.54.

Desmond Chambers (Rochester/Gates Chili) won the long jump with a winning leap of 6.91 m.  He also was 2nd in the 60 m dash (7.18).  Richard Krouse (Eden) won the high jump with a 1st place and meet record of 1.90 m.

Brian Edwards (Tri-Valley) won the shot put with a toss of 14.48 m.  Teammate Robert Howard (Syracuse/Nottingham) was 4th in the event (13.27 m) while Leandro DelRosario (Brooklyn/Thomas Edison) was 6th (12.41 m).

Bailey also won the the 60m hurdles (8.85).  Alex Farrell (N. Tonawanda) was 2nd in the 1 mile (4:49.45) and Travis Nagle (Randolph) was 2nd in the pole vault (4.25 m).

Other top performances included:

  • Jayvon Larkin (Rochester/Wilson) was 4th in the triple jump (13.19 m)
  • Woodard was 5th in the 60 m (7.53)
  • Dane Dechow (Randolph) was 5th in the 60 m hurdles (9.51)
  • Thomas was 6th in the triple jump (12.98 m)

On the women's side, Tanzaniah Blair (Rochester/Rush Henrietta) was 5th in the 60 m dash (8.83) and Megan Dillon (Angola/Lake Shore) was 5th in the 60 m hurdles (11.95).  Amahtala Walker (Rochester/School of the Arts) was 6th in the 60 m dash (9.00) and Ella Donovan (Clifton-Fine) was 6th in the 60 hurdles (12.37).

Dillon, Courtney Ward (Waverly), Donovan, and Brooke Kratzer (Canisteo Greenwood) finished 4th in the 4x400 (5:14.3).

The Pioneers return to action next weekend.  Most of the team will compete at the Brockport Invitational while the multi-athletes will travel to Ithaca College for the Region III Multi.
