Track Team Opens up Outdoor Season at West Chester

The Alfred State outdoor track & field team opened up the 2013 season with a strong showing at the West Chester University.

Travis Nagle (Randolph), Josiah Thomas (Rochester/John Marshall), and Desmond Chambers(Rochester/Gates Chili) all earned 2nd place finishes.  Nagle was 2nd in the pole vault (4.51 m), Thomas was 2nd in the triple jump (13.03 m), and Chambers was 2nd in the long jump (6.86 m).

Ismail El-Amin (Rochester/Wilson) was 3rd in the long jump (6.66 m) and 4th in the 400 m (51.04).  The 4 x 400 relay team of Nate Andres (Arcade/Pioneer), Thomas, Cody Marvin (Bath), and Logan Phillips (Genesee Valley) finished 4th in 3:31.01.

Marvin was 5th in the 400 m (51.23), Richard Krouse (Eden) was 6th in the high jump (1.80 m), Chambers was 7th in the 100 m (11.52), and Brian Edwards (Neversink/Tri-Valley) was 7th in the shot put (13.79 m).

The women's 4 x 100 relay team of Tanzania Blair (Rochester/Rush Henrietta), Tiara Summers (Staten Island/Port Richmond), Amahtala Walker (Rochester/School of the Arts), and Billie Carroll (Rochester/Edison) finished 7th in 52.63.

The West Chester Invitational featured athletes from NCAA DI, DII, and DIII colleges along with NJCAA schools.

The Pioneers scheduled home meet on Wednesday has already been canceled due to the snow in Alfred and the cold weather forecasted for the Southern Tier.
