Carroll Wins Triple Jump at NJCAA Nationals

Alfred State freshmen Billie Carroll (Rochester/Edison) won the national championship in the triple jump at the 2013 NJCAA Division III National Championships on Friday.  The Lady Pioneers scored 28 points on the day.  The Pioneer men continue to sit in 4th place with 32 points.

Carroll registered the winning jump of 10.73 m on her first jump and becomes the first Pioneer to win a National Championship at this year's event.

Nicole Lipa (Lockport/Newfane) finished 2nd in the pole vault with a leap of 2.76 m while Megan Dillon (Angola/Lake Shore) was 4th (2.46 m).  Jen DeNovio (Guilderland) was 8th in the discus (30.02 m) and Courtney Whetstine (Lewiston/Lewiston Porter) was 8th in the triple jump (9.73 m).

On the men's side, Josiah Thomas (Rochester/John Marshall) was 3rd in the triple jump with a leap of 14.51 m.

The 2013 National Championships conclude on Saturday with the finals of all the track events and the completion of the field events.
