Pioneers Win Region III Title, Women 3rd

The Alfred State men's outdoor track & field team won the Region III title on Saturday afternoon.  The title is the program's 8th and comes in the Pioneers final year participating in the NJCAA.  The women's team finished 3rd out of the five teams.

The Pioneers won by 77 points with their 247 points.  SUNY Delhi was 2nd with 170, Herkimer CCC was 3rd (116), Mohawk Valley CC 4th (72), and Finger Lakes CC 5th (33).

The blue & gold had four individual Regional Champions on Saturday.  Brian Tubbs (Chemung/Waverly) won the 400 (50.25), Travis Nagle (Randolph) won the pole vault (4.10 m), Brian Edwards (Neversink/Tri-Valley) won the shot put (14.19 m), and Anthony Soto (Waterloo) won the javelin (46.90 m)

The 4x100 team of Desmond Chambers (Rochester/Gates Chili), Ismail El-Amin (Rochester/Wilson), Zack Woodard (Adams Center/South Jefferson), and Tubbs won in 43.01 while the 4x400 team of Nate Andres (Arcade/Pioneer), Josiah Thomas (Rochster/John Marshall), Woodard, and Tubbs won in 3:26.04.

Other top performances included: Chambers was 2nd in the 100 m (11.04) and 2nd in the long jump (6.92 m), El-Amin was 2nd in the 200 (22.74), Andres was 2nd in the 400 (50.60), Frankie Bailey (Rochester/John Marshall) was 2nd in the 110 hurdles (15.33), Logan Phillips (Angelica/Genesee Valley), Thomas was 2nd in the triple jump (13.62), and Robert Howard (Syracuse/Henninger) was 2nd in the shot put (14.16 m).

On the women's side, Billie Carroll (Rochester/Edison) led the way.  She won the 100 m hurdles in 17.13 and the triple jump (10.43 m), finished 2nd in the 400 hurdles (1:10.51).

Nicole Lipa (Lockport/Newfane) was 2nd in the pole vault (2.80 m), Caitlyn Hotchkiss (Springville/Springville Griffith) was 3rd in the 400 (1:05.03), Megan Dillon (Angola/Lake Shore) was 3rd in the pole vault (2.50 m), Courtney Wheststine (Lewiston/Lewsiton Porter) was 3rd in the triple jump (9.47 m).

The 4x400 relay team of Hotchkiss, Wheststine, Lipa, and Ella Donovan (Wanakena/Clifton Fine) finished 2nd in 5:02.45.

The Lady Pioneers scored 101 points in the competition.  Mohawk Valley won the competion with 227 points followed by Herkimer (148), Alfred, Delhi (82), and Finger Lakes (52).

The Pioneer men swept the Region III track titles for the first time since 2002.  The indoor team also won the Region III title in February.
