Pioneers Perform Well in Final Tune-up before Regionals

The Alfred State track & field team wrapped up the regular season with a strong showing at the 32-school Cardinal Classic hosted by St. John Fisher.

Brian Edwards (Neversink/Tri-Valley) and Desmond Chambers (Rochester/Gates Chili) had the best individual performances of the day.  Edwards was 2nd in the discus (43.38 m) and Chambers was 3rd in the long jump with a leap of 7.02 m.

Nate Andres (Arcade/Pioneer) was 5th in th 400 (50.82), Robert Howard (Syracuse/Nottingham) was 5th in the shot put (13.96 m), Travis Nagle (Randolph) was 6th in the pole vault (3.90 m), and Tylor Lehman (Wellsville) was 6th in the javelin (44.44 m).  Brian Tubbs (Chemung/Waverly) was 7th in the 400 (58.17), Edwards was 7th in the shot put (13.90 m), and  Logan Phillips (Genesee Valley) was 8th in the 400 hurdles (58.17).

The 4x400 relay of Josiah Thomas (Rochester/John Marshall), Tubbs, Zach Woodard (Adams Center/South Jefferson), and Andres won in 326.62 while the 4x100 relay team of Ismail El-Amin (Rochester/Wilson), Woodard  Chambers, Tubbs, and finished 2nd in 43.76.

Tiara Summers (Staten Island/Port Richmond) led the women with a 6th place finish in the 100 m (13.20).

Alex Farrell (N. Tonawanda) qualified for nationals in the 1,500 with a time of 4:15.84 while Lehman's toss in the javelin qualified him for nationals.

The Pioneers will host the Region III Championships next weekend.  Events start at 3 p.m. on Friday and run all day Saturday.  Alfred State will welcome SUNY Delhi, Mohawk Valley CC, Finger Lakes CC, and Herkimer CCC to Pioneer Stadium for the event.
