Track has Strong Showing at Roc City Classic
The Alfred State outdoor track & field team had a strong showing at the Roc City Classic hosted by Nazareth College. The Pioneers had seven winning performances on the day.
Desmond Chambers (Rochester/Gates Chili) won the 200 (22.68) and the long jump (7.08 m), and was 2nd in the 100 (11.22) to lead the blue & gold. He was also part of the winning 4x100 relay team (43.53) with Ismail El-Amin (Rochester/Wilson), Brian Tubbs (Chemung/Waverly), and Zach Woodard (Adams Center/South Jefferson).
Frankie Bailey (Rochster/John Marshall) won the 400 hurdles (56.96 - 7th best in school history) and was 3rd in the 110 hurdles (16.34). Travis Nagle (Randolph) won the pole vault with a leap of 4.25 m and the 4x400 relay team of Tubbs, Woodard, Nate Andres (Arcade/Pioneer), and Logan Phillips (Angelica/Genesee Valley) won in 3:33.10.
On the women's side, Tiara Summers (Staten Island/Port Richmond) and Billie Carroll (Rochester/Edison) led the way. Summers won the 200 in 26.95 and was 6th in the 100 (13.49). Carroll was 3rd in the triple jump (10.49 - 3rd best in school history) and 3rd in the 400 (1:13.57).
Summers and Carroll were also part of the 4x400 relay team with Brooke Kratzer (Canisteo/Canisteo Greenwood) and Jolene Paonessa (Lodi/South Seneca) which qualified for nationals with a 3rd place finish (4:35.58).
Paonessa also finished 3rd in the javelin (24.03) and 6th in the 110 hurdles (20.47).
