Region III Multi: Day One Recap

Day one of the Region III multi event featuring the men's decathlon and the women's heptathlon were crisp air at Pioneer Stadium on Saturday.  Six male athletes and six female athletes battle for the regional crown.

Travis Nagle (Randolph) sits in 2nd, Ryan Seward (Corfu/Pembroke) is in 4th, and Anthony Soto (Waterloo) is in 6th for the Pioneers in the decathlon.  Nagle accumulaed 2,777 points including 670 points with his leap of 1.85 m in the high jump.  Seward has 1,929 with his best performance in the 100 m (12.84) while Soto has 1,215 points with his best mark in the 100 (12.54).

Herkimer's Joe Shinn leads the competition with 2,972 points.  The decathlon concludes tomorrow with the 110 hurdles, the discus, the pole vault, the javelin, and 1,500 m competitions.

After day one of the women's heptathlon, Alfred State athletes sit in 3rd, 4th, and 5th.  Jolene Paonessa (Lodi/South Seneca) is in 3rd with 1,476 points with her throw of 8.41 m in in the shot put gaining her the most points (426).  Brooke Kratzer (Canisteo Greenwood) is in 4th with 1,273 points.  Her best event was the 200 m (31.84).  Ella Donovan (Wanakena/Clifton Fine) is 5th with 1,116 points.  Her best event was the high jump (1.24 m).

Herkimer's Mary Lenhart leads the competition with 1,823 points.  The heptathlon concludes on Monday with the long jump, javelin, and 800 m competition.

Day two of the Region III multi begins at 9 a.m. at Pioneer Stadium on Monday.
