Pioneer Men in 4th at Track Nationals After Day One

The Alfred State men's outdoor track & field team sits in 4th place with 21 points after day one of the NJCAA Division III National Championships.  The women's team has scored two points on day one.

The Pioneers were led on day one by Travis Nagle (Randolph).  Nagle finished 2nd in the pole vault with a vault of 4.33 m.  Nagle also sits in 7th place after day one of the decathlon.  He has scored 2,243 points through the first five events.

The blue & gold also took 4th and 5th place in the long jump.  Ismail El-Amin (Rochester/Wilson) finished 4th with a leap of 6.94 m while Desmond Chambers (Rochester/Gates Chili) was 5th with a mark of 6.83 m.

The 4x800 relay team of Tylor Lehman (Wellsville), Zachary Hale (Rochester/Greece Athena), Kyle Jones (Ransomville/Wilson), and Alex Farrell (N. Tonawanda) finished 6th in a time of 8:15.12.

Sam Sherwin (Williamson) was 8th in the in the hammer throw with a toss of 40.02 m.  Ryan Seward (Corfu/Pembroke) is in 10th place in the decathlon with 1,983 points.

On the women's side the 4x800 relay team of Courtney Whetstine (Lewiston/Lewiston Porter), Caitlyn Hotchkiss (Springville/Springville Griffith), Megan Dillon (Angola/Lake Shore), and Billie Carroll (Rochester/Edison Tech) finished 7th in 10:55.55.

In the heptathlon, Jolene Paonessa (Lodi/South Seneca) sits in 6th (1,407 points) and Brooke Kratzer (Canisteo Greenwood) is 7th (1,251 points).

Action continues on Friday with the decathlon and heptathlon starting at 9 a.m. and field events beginning at 1 p.m.
