Men 3rd, Women 6th as Track Nationals Come to an End

The Alfred State track & field team wrapped up the 2013 season with impressive showings on the final day of the NJCAA Division III National Championships.  The Pioneer men finished the three day competition in 3rd while the women were 6th.

Brian Edwards (Neversink/Tri-Valley), Robert Howard (Syracuse/Henninger), and Billie Carroll (Rochester/Edison) won National Championships on Saturday.  

Edwards won the title in the discus with a toss of 43.21 m and was 3rd in the shot put (13.95). Howard won the shot put with a toss of 14.84 m.  Carroll collected her 2nd title in the championships by winning the 100 hurdles in 16.90.  She was also 6th in the 400 hurdles in 1:12.65.

The men's 4x400 relay team and 4x100 relay team each finished 2nd.  The 4x400 ran a season best 3:19.89 while the 4x100 finished in 42.64.

Frankie Bailey (Rochester/John Marshall) was 3rd in the 400 hurdles (56.06) and 4th in the 110 hurdles (15.91).  Logan Phillips (Angelica/Genesee Valley) was 4th in the 400 hurdles (56.56) while Travis Nagle (Randolph) was 4th in the decathlon.

Jolene Paonessa (Lodi/South Seneca) was 5th in the heptathlon (2,468 points) and 8th in the javelin (27.84 m).  Brooke Kratzer (Canisteo/Canisteo Greenwood) was 7th in the heptathlon with 2,092 points.
