Pioneers Split Day One of USCAA Tip-off Touranment

The Alfred State volleyball team opened up their 2014 season by splitting a pair of games on day one of the USCAA Tip-off Tournament hosted at Penn State Beaver.  The Lady Pioneers swept Robert Morris-Springfield 3-0 to start the season but fell 3-1 to Rochester (MI) College.

In the 25-9, 25-22, 25-10 victory over Robert Morris, Kay Pfleghardt (Tioga) led the way with 18 digs and 13 kills.  Lera Braun (Waterloo) finished with 26 assists and six kills, Jess Ramsey (Tioga) registered 19 digs, and Jessica Padley (Sweet Home) had 10 digs, five kills, and five service aces.

Braun recorded 33 assists, seven digs, and five kills in the Pioneers 25-16, 20-25, 11-25, 23-25 contest vs. Rochester.  Pfleghardt chipped in 19 digs, 15 kills, and two aces, Ramsey had 24 digs and three assists, and Grace Hall (Ellicottville) added nine kills.

The blue & gold continue play at the USCAA Tip-off Tournament on Saturday.  They battle Penn State Beaver at 11 a.m. and Penn State Greater Allegheny at 1 p.m.
