Dozen Straight for Lady Spikers

The Alfred State volleyball team ran their winning streak to a dozen matches as they won a pair of matches at the SUNYIT Tournament on Saturday. The Lady Pioneers are now 15-2 on the season and ranked #3 in the latest USCAA poll.

The Lady Pioneers opened up play on Saturday with a 25-17, 23-25, 25-18, 25-16 victory over Elmira. Kay Pfleghardt (Tioga) notched 16 kills and seven digs while Lera Braun (Waterloo) finished with 36 assists. Grace Hall (Ellicottville) had 10 kills, Jess Ramsey (Tioga) 22 digs, and Madison Szpaicher (Ellicottville) chipped in 12 digs and six kills.

Pfleghardt had 13 kills and 10 digs as Alfred State defeated SUNYIT 25-21, 25-12, 25-16 to wrap up play this weekend. Braun passed out 27 assists, Szpaicher added 12 digs, and Janae Hamilton (Ellicottville) was credited with nine kills.

Alfred State finishes the month of September 12-0 record.

The Lady Pioneers take the short trip to Houghton College on Wednesday for a 7 p.m. contest vs. the Highlanders.
