Lady Pioneers Split Day 2 at St. Joseph's

The Alfred State volleyball team split a pair of matches on day two of the St. Joseph's (LI) Tournament. The Lady Pioneers defeated Wilkes 25-23, 31-33,25-17, 25-15 but fell 21-25, 25-14, 18-25, 17-25 to Ramapo.

Janae Hamilton (Ellicottville) led the way vs. Wilkes wiht 14 kills and six blocks. Kay Pfleghardt (Tioga) had 13 kills and 22 digs, Lera Braun (Waterloo) passed out 39 assists and had six aces, and Jess Ramsey had 26 digs. Grace Hall (Ellicottville) chipped in eight kills and eight digs.

Pfleghardt had 20 kills vs. Ramapo while Braun passed out 31 assists and had six digs. Ramsey had 21 digs, Hamilton added seven kills, and Madison Szpaicher (Ellicottville) had eight digs.

The Lady Pioneers were 3-1 during the two-day tournament and are now 22-4 on the year. 

The Lady Pioneers will head to the USCAA Championships in Canton, NY this week as the #3 seed. They battle #9 Carlow (10 a.m.) and #7 Tennessee Temple (2:30 p.m.) on Thursday. On Friday they take on #5 Berea (10 a.m.) and #1 Florida College (2:30 p.m.) to complete pool play. This is the first trip to the USCAA Championships for the Lady Pioneers.
