Pink Pioneers Race Past Davis

The Alfred State volleyball team raced past Davis College 25-10, 25-1, 25-7 as the team raised funds to support the Allegany County Cancer Services. The pink clad Pioneers improve to 19-3 on the year.

All twelve Lady Pioneers contributed in the victory. Kay Pfleghardt (Tioga) led the team with 10 kills while Lera Braun (Waterloo) had 30 assists and nine service aces, and Grace Hall (Ellicottville) had seven aces and four kills. Janae Hamilton (Ellicotville) and Jess Padley (Sweet Home) each had five kills and Jess Ramsey (Tioga) led the team with 13 digs.

The Lady Pioneers recorded a .509 hitting percentage in the game. During the 2nd set, Alfred State scored the first 23 points including 22 straight serves by Braun.

The focus of the night was fund raising for the Allegany County Career Services. The ACCS raises funds to support those in Allegany County struggling with breast cancer. Official numbers have not been calculated but estimates of $1,000 were raised.

Alfred State is next in action next weekend at the St. Joseph's Tournament. The team will also look forward to the announcement of the USCAA National Championship field. The official announcement will be made at 5 p.m. on Monday.
