Houghton Defeats Lady Spikers in Four

After dropping the first set, Houghton College won the next three to earn a 3-1 victory over Alfred State on Wednesday night. The Lady Pioneers took the opener 26-24 but fell 14-25, 23-25, 18-25 in their final home match of the season.

Kay Pfleghardt (Tioga) led the team with 15 digs and 13 kills in her final home match of her four-year career wearing the Lady Pioneers blue & gold. Pfleghardt is the first Alfred St. volleyball player to play four years in program history.

Lera Braun (Waterloo) had 35 assists and 11 digs, Jess Ramsey (Tioga) had 19 digs, and Madison Szpaicher (Ellicottville) had 15 digs. Janae Hamilton (Ellicottville) and Jessica Padley (Sweet Home) each had eight kills.

Alfred State (25-9) was slowed down by 14 service errors in the contest.

The Lady Pioneers will now wait to hear if they earned a bid to the ECAC Tournament. The field for the ECAC Tournament will be announced on Monday.
