Berea Rallies Past Lady Spikers

The Alfred State volleyball team won 25-17 in the first set but Berea (KY) rallied to win the next two 20-25, 12-15 to earn the victory in a USCAA Championship Pool A match-up. Both teams are now 2-1 in Pool play.

The Lady Pioneers came out swinging in the first set connecting on 12 kills while making only one error en route to the victory. The Mountaineers rebounded and used an early six point run to take control of the second. Berea lead 12-7 in the deciding third set before the Lady Pioneers rallied to make it 12-11 but the Mountaineers kept the pressure on and got the victory.

Kay Pfleghardt (Tioga) led the way with 14 kills and eight digs while Lera Braun (Waterloo) added 24 assists and six digs. Janae Hamilton (Ellicottville) finished with seven kills, Jess Ramsey (Tioga) had 11 digs, and Madison Szpaicher (Ellicottville) had seven digs and three blocks.

Alfred State (24-5) plays their final pool play game of the USCAA Nationals at 2:30 p.m. vs. #1 seeded Flordia College. The quarterfinals of the tournament begin at 4 p.m. as the top four teams in each bracket advance.
