Lady Pioneers Finish 2nd at USCAA Tip-Off Tourney

The Alfred State volleyball team finished 2nd as they completed action at the USCAA Tip-off Tournament on Saturday. The Lady Pioneers swept Penn State Beaver and Penn State Greater Allegheny to advance to the finals.  In the finals the blue & gold was tripped up 3-0 by Rochester (MI) College.

The Lady Pioneers opened up the day with a 25-8, 25-16, 25-15 victory over PS Beaver.  Kay Pfleghardt (Tioga) recorded 11 kills and three aces while Lera Braun (Waterloo) had 22 assists and eight kills.

Braun passed out 22 assists and had two aces as Alfred State defeated PS Greater Allegheny 25-20, 25-9, 25-10.  Jessica Padley (Sweet Home) added eight kills and five digs and Grace Hall (Ellicottville) chipped in seven aces and five kills.

In the finals, Rochester earned a 25-18, 25-20, 25-22 victory to claim the title and finish the tournament 5-0.  Pfleghardt registered 19 kills and 12 digs, Braun passed out 26 assists, and Hall had five kills, five aces, and five digs.

Pfleghardt was named to the All-Tournament team as the Lady Pioneers finished the two-day tournament with a 3-2 mark.

Alfred State returns to action next Saturday when they travel to Keuka to take on the Wolfpack and Utica College.
