Game Notes:

  • The Pioneers and Spartans battle for the first time as Alfred State celebrates Homecoming 2014.
  • The Pioneers dropped a heartbreaker last week, 34-28 in OT at Husson. Rasheed Williams rushed for 234 yards and a score while Ben Wilkerson and Erik Simmons connected on three TD pass plays.
  • After winning their opener, Castleton fell 41-13 to Rensselaer last week. The Spartans have struggled hanging on to the ball. They have thrown four interceptions and lost three fumbles.
  • Ben Wilkerson and Erik Simmons have connected on all five of the Pioneers scoring pass plays this year.
  • The Pioneer defense has struggled making the big plays this year. The defense has only one sack, one interception, and three recovered fumbles. Opponents are also converting 53% of 3rd down conversions.
  • Castleton QB Tyler Higley is the only Spartan to throw a pass this year. The sophomore has completed 49.2% of his passes but has thrown four interceptions and only two TD's.
  • Ryan Stanek led the defense with 24 tackles, a sack, and an interception. Mike Perrone leads the team with two sacks.
  • Alfred State will travel to Castleton St. next year to complete the two-year contract.

  • Admission into the football game is $5 for adults and $2 for seniors. If you attend the tailgate lunch ($11) you will receive free admission into the game.

Homecoming 2014 Information

  • The football game is just part of an exciting weekend of action for Homecoming 2014.
  • Friday features the men's soccer team taking on SUNY Canton at 4 p.m. followed by the 2014 Hall of Fame Induction ceremony at 6 p.m. (Richard Zeitler, James Burns, Peter Wuerslin, Tom Stapleton, and Paul Eaton will be inducted and the 1971-72 National Championship Ski teams will be honored.).
  • Friday night will also feature the first Pioneer Spirit Rally. The spirit rally will feature a kickball tournament, a bonfire, a car smash, a pep rally, and food starts at 7:30 p.m. at Pioneer Stadium and culminates with fireworks at 9:15 p.m.
  • Prior to the football game at 1 p.m., Saturday activities include 4th Annual Race for a for a Cure 5k (9 a.m.), alumni lacrosse game (10 a.m.), alumni baseball game (10 a.m.), alumni cross country meet. Tailgating outside of Pioneer Stadium and a Gameday live stage show will start at 10 a.m. with ACES serving a chicken barbecue starting at 11 a.m.
  • Daniel Martin, magician/comedian, will perform at 5 p.m. in the Cappadonia Auditorium.
