Williams Signs with Detroit Lions

Moments after the NFL draft Rasheed Williams (Swedesboro, NJ) signed an undrafted free agent contract with the Detroit Lions. Williams will look to make the Lions roster and become the second Pioneer (Rod Streater - Oakland Raiders) currently in the NFL.

Williams will not have to travel far to join the Lions as he has spent most of the winter and spring training with his agent Dr. D.S. Ping in Michigan. Leading up to the draft, Williams participated in the NFL Regional Combine in Chicago, had a private workout with the Houston Texans, and held a pro day that the New York Jets attended at Alfred State.

Williams wore the blue & gold the past two years after earning NJCAA All-American honors at Louisburg (NC) College. This past season he rushed for 1,676 yards and 16 scores in nine games. He recorded over 100 yards rushing in eight of the team's nine contests and averaged 6.7 yards per carry and 186.2 yards per game.

At the end of the season he was named All-USCAA 1st team and to the All-ECAC North 1st team. During the season he was named USCAA Offensive Player of the Week five times and was honored once on the Team of the Week by D3Football.com

Williams broke or tied eleven records during his two-year career at Alfred State including single season rushing yards (1,676), career rushing yards (2,693) and rushing touchdowns in a career (26)

Williams joins elite Alfred State company with his shot in the NFL. Rod Streater will begin his 4th season with the Oakland Raiders while LeRoy Collins and Lyonel Anderson spent time in NFL camps and on practice squads.

Only one NCAA DIII player was drafted in the 2015 NFL draft (Ali Marpet - Hobart) but Williams is one of only six DIII players who have signed with teams thus far following the draft.

Williams will head to the rookie camp this week in hopes to being on the opening day roster when the Lions take on the San Diego Chargers. The Lions are slated to battle the Oakland Raiders at Ford Field on November 22nd.
