Pioneer Faces - Coach Dan Levy

There are some new faces in the halls of the Orvis Activities Center. As we near the start of the 2015-16 school year we will profile some of the new coaches and staff in athletics.

Dan Levy joined the Alfred State coaching staff this summer and will serve as the program's offensive coordinator. 

After graduating from Texas Christian University, Coach Levy has spent the majority of his career as a player and coach overseas. He has spent time in Norway, Brazil, Italy, Ireland, and Poland.

Most recently Levy served as the head coach of the Ancona Dolphins of the Italian Football League, leading the Dolphins to the playoffs in 2015.  Under his leadership, the Dolphins became the #13-ranked team in Europe and the top-ranked team in Italy. 

Prior to his season with the Dolphins, Levy served as the Head Coach of the Vila Velha Tritões of Brazil in 2014.

Since 2013 he has also served as an assistant coach and consultant for the Brazilian National Team as they prepared for their participation in the 2015 IFAF American Football World Cup in Canton, Ohio.  

From 2011-2012, Levy served as the Head Coach/Head of Football Operations for the Kristiansand Gladiators of the Norwegian American Football League.  During his time in Norway, Levy led the Gladiators back into Europe's top division and to their first winning season, playoff victory, and National Championship appearance in team history. 

He also served as an Assistant Coach at Episcopal High School in Baton Rouge, LA from 2010-2011.

Levy began his professional career as a player/coach for the UL Vikings of the Irish American Football League, where he played linebacker, running back and strong safety from 2005 to 2007.  During his time with the Vikings, Levy's honors included Best American Player (2005), Semi-Final MVP (2006), and Offensive MVP (2007) after leading the league in scoring as a running back.  He spent the 2008 season as a player/coach for the Krakow Tigers in Poland.  

Coach Levy is a strong advocate for the growth of American football internationally.  He is a contributing writer to various publications including The Growth of a Game,American Football InternationalTouchdown Europe and Europlayers.  He has participated in a number of outreach efforts-such as American Football Without Barriers, an NFL initiative to grow American football in underprivileged areas-and has participated in a number of camps and clinics in both Europe and South America. 

Coach Levy was inducted into the touchdown Europe Hall of Fame in 2014.  He is a published writer and holds a Masters of Fine Arts in Creative Writing from Goddard College.
