Eleven Pioneers Earn USCAA Honors

Eleven members of the Alfred State football team have earned All-USCAA honors following the 2015 season. Five Pioneers were named to the 1st team and six to the 2nd team.

Khris Greggs (Rochester/Aquinas), Josh Ashley (Brooklyn/Grand Street Campus), John Garbowski (Mohegan Lake/Lakeland), Steven Hubick (Fountain Hills, AZ), and Zack Goodwin (Poughkeepsie) were all 1st team selections.

  • Greggs caught a team high 44 passes for 461 yards. He caught three touchdown passes and scored on a season long 80-yard passing play at Castleton. He also accumulated 585 yards on kick returns in 29 attempts.
  • Ashley caught 27 passes for 368 yards and two scores in nine games. His season best catch was 49 yards scoring play in the opener vs. William Paterson.
  • Garbowski led the Pioneer defense with 80 tackles (40 solo) and four sacks. He also had one interception (returned 54-yards for a score), three forced fumbles, and two fumble recoveries. 
  • Hubick made 62 tackles (37 solo) in nine games this season. He also chipped in a sack, 2.5 tackles for a loss, and a blocked kick.
  • Goodwin punted 67 times for 2,215 yards on the season. He had five punts over 50 yards and five that were inside the opponents 20. He handled most of the kicking duties and was 4 for 5 in PAT attempts. 

Ben Wilkerson (Fayette-Ware), Romiio Littlejohn (Brooklyn/Grand Street Campus), Jeff Andrews (Randolph), Kenneth Nelson (Oakland, CA), John Lauretti (Seaford), and Chris Monteiro (Farmingville/Sachem East) were 2nd team selections.

  • Wilkerson passed for 1,212 yards and nine scores in the eight games he played this season. He averaged 151.5 yards per game and completed 55.6 percent of his passes. On the year he threw only four interceptions.
  • Littlejohn appeared in all ten games and caught 36 passes for 340 yards and two scores. His longest catch of the year was a 59-yard scoring play vs. Brockport.
  • Andrews was a key component of the Pioneers offensive line starting at left tackle.
  • Nelson was 3rd on the team with 60 tackles (22 solo). He recorded three tackles for a loss and was credited with a pass break-up.
  • Lauretti accumulated 46 tackles (20 solo) and a sack on the year. He finished with 8.5 tackles for a loss and recovered two fumbles.
  • Monteiro made 39 tackles (23 solo) from his cornerback position. He had 4.5 tackles for a loss, two interceptions, and one fumble recovery.

Alfred State competes in the USCAA with the Apprentice School, Iowa Wesleyan, and the Williamson College of Trades. The Pioneers had eight players honored by the USCAA last year.
