Rushing Attack Leads Husson

Husson University rushed for 356 yards on 69 carries as they defeated Alfred State 44-2 on a rainy Saturday afternoon. The Eagles even their record at 1-1 while the Pioneers fall to 0-2.

The Pioneers scored their lone points of the game just 2:04 into the contest. After forcing a three and out, Husson lined up to punt and the snap went over the punters head and led to a safety.

John Smith and Kenny Sweet turned the game around from that point forward. Smith rushed for three 1st half touchdowns and Sweet intercepted three passes. Smith scored from 1-yard, 6-yards, and 3-yards in the 1st half and Sweet registered three picks and 100-return yards.

Deon Wiggins added a 55-yard punt return for a score in the 1st quarter and Husson scored a safety late in the 2nd quarter after a Pioneer miscue in the end zone to hold a 30-2 halftime lead.

Logan Steward ran in from 49-yards and Stephen Day scored from 3-yards out to cap the scoring in the 4th quarter.

Smith rushed for 184 yards and three scores on 29 carries. Steward finished with 128 yards and a score on 18 carries.

Sweet added four tackles and four pass break-ups to his four interceptions. Ellis Throckmorton led Husson, Tarik Smith, and Elvin Suazo all finished with five tackles. The Eagles defense held the Pioneer offense to just 41 yards off offense.

Kenneth Nelson (Oakland, CA) led the Alfred State defense with 13 tackles. Steven Hubick (Fountain Hills, AZ) added 11 tackles while John Garbowski (Mohegan Lake/Lakeland) finished with nine tackles, a forced fumble, and a fumble recovery. The defense recovered four fumbles in the contest.

The Pioneers hit the road for the first time in 2015 next weekend when they travel to the University of Rochester for a Noon kickoff.
